Position Overview: The Director of Development is a strategic, relationship-driven fundraising professional responsible for expanding and stewarding the philanthropic resources that support R.H. Boyd’s mission, programs, and community impact. This role leads all fundraising initiatives—including annual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, planned giving efforts, and signature fundraising events such as the Legacy Ball and anniversary celebration events.
The ideal candidate excels in donor cultivation, grant writing, event fundraising, and fiscal management, with the ability to design innovative development strategies that drive revenue growth and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising Strategy and Revenue Generation
- Develop and execute a comprehensive annual fundraising plan with measurable goals across individual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundations, and sponsorships.
- Lead donor pipeline development, prospect research, and cultivation strategies to increase philanthropic support.
- Create compelling proposals, pitch decks, and stewardship materials that communicate. R.H. Boyd’s mission, vision, and impact.
Grant Writing and Endowment Relations
- Identify, research, and pursue grant opportunities aligned with R.H. Boyd’s initiatives in education, literacy, cultural heritage, and community development.
- Prepare high-quality grant applications, budgets, and narrative reports.
- Manage grant compliance, deliverables, and timelines to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Donor Relations and Stewardship
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with donors, sponsors, volunteers, and philanthropic partners.
- Implement stewardship strategies to enhance donor engagement, retention, and lifetime value.
- Oversee donor database management, gift processing accuracy, and CRM reporting.
Event Leadership and Sponsorship Development
- Lead fundraising strategy, sponsorship solicitation, and donor engagement plans for key events, including:
o The Legacy Ball
o Legacy Ball Season Programming and Patron Events
o Meet R.H. Boyd on the Road Anniversary Tour
o Special launches, community events, and anniversary initiatives
- Develop sponsorship packages, secure underwriting, and manage fulfillment of all sponsor benefits.
- Partner with event planning teams to ensure events meet fundraising and relationship-building goals.
Financial and Data Management
- Oversee fundraising budgets, revenue forecasting, and expense management in alignment with organizational goals.
- Track KPIs, donor segmentation, and revenue analytics to inform strategies and improve performance.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial standards, donor intent, and reporting requirements.
Communications and Brand Alignment
- Collaborate with the CEO, Finance Director, Creative Director, and Editorial teams to produce fundraising messaging, campaigns, and impact stories.
- Support the development of annual reports, donor newsletters, campaign collateral, and digital fundraising initiatives.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to align fundraising goals with organizational strategy.
- Coordinate with project management, finance, and operations teams to ensure accurate budgeting and program understanding.
- Supervise development staff, contractors, and interns as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or CFRE preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fundraising, development management, grant writing, or nonprofit leadership.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and corporate partnerships.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and forecasting revenue.
- Exceptional written communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with CRM systems, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Passion for education, cultural preservation, publishing, and community development.
- Familiarity with Black church traditions and African American history and cultural.
