Dr. LaDonna Boyd presents the February 2023 lesson series from R.H. Boyd. This unit is entitled “God’s Call and Its Responsibilities,” and it has four lessons from 1 Corinthians, 2 Timothy, James, and 1 Peter. These lessons teach us that God’s call—and the responsibilities of that call—is without regard to an individual’s past. God sent His only Son to die for our sins as the ultimate expression of His love for us. We must honor that sacrifice through abiding by His calling on our lives.
The February 5 lesson entitled Wisdom and Foolishness comes from 1 Corinthians 1:18–31. We can all be strengthened through maintaining daily relationships with those who provide good counsel.
The lesson for February 12 is entitled Trust and Encouragement from 2 Timothy 1:3–14. In this lesson, Paul is reminding Timothy of how much he cares for him and the ministry that has been assigned to Timothy. He also wants Timothy to be very mindful of what has been poured into him by his mother Eunice and his grandmother Lois. The faith that is passed from Timothy’s mother and grandmother is a reminder that often the faith is carried from one generation to the next in families.
The February 19 lesson is entitled The Rich and the Poor from James 2:1-12. The author of this letter is James, who was likely the half-brother of Jesus Christ. He was a leader within the new church and had firsthand experience of how fellow Jews treated each other.
The lesson for February 26 is entitled An Important Role from 1 Peter 2:1–10. Christians must serve God by being a witness to others about Christ because we were chosen by God to carry out His call and purpose. One of the challenges of life is overcoming rejection. We can share our positive experiences from following the call that God has placed on their lives to show younger generations what it means to be chosen.
