As we enter into the final month of the year and celebrate the advent season, let us be reminded of the meaningful gift of Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection.
Dr. LaDonna Boyd presents the December lessons collectively entitled, “Profiles in Faith” and there are five lessons drawn from the books of Ruth, 1 Samuel, and Matthew. As we review these profiles in faith, we begin to see faith in action.
In the first lesson, we see how Ruth trusted that God would provide for her and her mother-in-law. In the second lesson, David trusts that God will enable him to slay the giant Goliath, even though he was not a warrior. The third lesson draws on the stories of the women named in Matthew 1 to show how God’s plans unfold in ways we often least expect. In the fourth lesson, Elizabeth and Mary trust that God is sending the Christ Child to bring salvation to Israel. In the final lesson, the wise men trusted that God is sending the Christ Child to be the Messiah for all nations.
Remember to listen to God’s voice even in unexpected times. Our faith can help us overcome life’s greatest challenges. What are you willing to sacrifice for the cause of Christ?
