R.H. Boyd is seeking a talented and motivated Creative Director to lead our company's creative department. The successful candidate must possess excellent leadership qualities, creative expression, time management skills, and be multi-talented in marketing and advertising abilities. The Creative Director will be responsible for the graphic design team, digital marketing team, public relations team, events, and marketing to deliver engaging content that meets the expectations of our customers and partners. This position is responsible for the execution and daily oversight of the art for multiple publications and digital content including cover design, interior development, selecting and hiring illustrators and photographers, product design, marketing collateral and social media designs. The Creative Director should be astute, dedicated, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. He or she must work alongside the Publications team, Director of Sales & Advertising, Customer Service Departments, and external partners. The Creative Director must be a designer by trade with managerial experience who will oversee product development with the assistance of the editorial team with a concerted focus on the aesthetic, voice, and consumer behavior of the African-American Christian audience.
Bachelor’s degree in art, graphic design, marketing, creative writing, communications, journalism, or other relevant field required. Master’s Degree preferred.
A minimum of 3 years’ digital experience, particularly with, but not limited to web, social, and emerging technologies.
Must have experience with African-American and/or Christian market(s)
A solid understanding of design, copy, and web practices.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be a creative and strategic thinker.
Knowledge of the publishing process and marketing trends affecting the publishing industry, art, and design.
Specific knowledge of typography, illustration styles and design trends.
Must possess design skills.
Must know Adobe Suite including InCopy, InDesign, Microsoft Publisher, and other relevant industry software.
Must have experience working with industry publications and media outlets.
At least 5 years’ work experience in publishing, media, and/or design.
Experience in faith-based industry preferred.
Thorough understanding of project management.
Able to apply design techniques, procedures, technology and tools. MAC platform experience.
Oversee the Digital Marketing Manager and team.
Oversee graphics artists, new product development, and overall design and style guides of organization.
Develop company branding, promotional campaigns via print, social media, radio, and other forms of media, and marketing communications for our stylists to use to communicate with their customers.
Evaluate trends, assess new data and keep up-to-date with the latest marketing techniques and emerging design trends (color, format, fonts, illustration).
Shape brand standards and create procedures to ensure all products are brand appropriate.
Develop exceptional and well-crafted copy for blog posts and automated email journey when appropriate.
Supervision of outside/contract and internal designers as well as hands on design work.
Consults with marketing and editorial departments and recommends overall visual direction to link strategies to the theme of the product and the text.
Manages and controls all aspects to acquired artwork through the utilization of the team members and outside vendors. Secures freelance illustrators and designers.
Administers and ensures adherence to budgets assigned to the creative aspects of the product, components, and team.
Manages budgets related to all projects and teams.
Manages and implements corporate style guide.
Ad placement design in conjunction with Director of Sales and Advertising. Ad types include, but are not limited to, Ad placement in related industry mediums, including display ads, social media ads, newspapers and magazines, outdoor advertising, radio and podcasts, direct mail, video ads, product placement, event marketing, and email marketing campaigns.
Support public relations campaigns.
Must attend the National Baptist Congress and any other company-sponsored events.
Utilizes metrics/data for determining messaging for campaigns.
Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Publications Director, Director of Sales and Advertising, and/or CEO.
